How It All Goes Down
- Falling off the roof does weird things to a guy's head… and we're talking about the inside.
- Dominick has a weird dream about killing his brother, who then turns into a monkey.
- He wakes up in a morphine fog, and he remembers seeing Rood shoot himself just before he fell.
- Then he remembers Thomas's hearing. He's been out two days, so he's really late for it.
- Miguel, the nurse, tells him that he had some visitors, including Joy who is telling everyone about their upcoming baby.
- First thing in the morning, Dominick is able to call Hatch, and Sheffer offers to come to the hospital to talk to him in person.
- While he waits, Dominick's roommate, Steve Felice, chats him up… and farts a lot.
- Turns out he has been talking to Ray when he's visited and that his fiancée visited, too, and recognized Dominick.
- Sheffer arrives. The hearing didn't go well. Thomas feared that Dominick had been captured by the Syrians, so he freaked out, and when Sheffer tried to calm him, he hit her.
- She leaves Dominick with a transcript of the hearing and heads out to get coffee.
- During the hearing, Thomas talked about the good voices he heard.
- The doctors there trick him. They ask if Jesus commanded him to hurt someone, would he do it?
- Thomas says of course Jesus wouldn't ask him to hurt anyone.
- "But if He did?" (30.264) the doctors press.
- Thomas says yes.
- Sheffer promises to take care of Thomas, and she gives Dominick a present from Dr. Patel—a mini Shiva.
- Joy visits. Dominick alternates between laughing and crying and says he's not going to be okay.
- Joy tries to blame his mood swing on the medication, but he says that's not it—he knows the baby isn't his because he had a vasectomy.
- When the nurse comes to check Dominick's catheter, Joy leaves.
- Ray and Leo visit, but we don't get the details.
- Later, Joy's friend Thad shows up and gives Dominick a Walkman and a tape from Joy.
- Dominick listens to it: Joy confesses that Thad, her gay friend, is the baby's dad. And he's actually not gay, he's bisexual—and he's her uncle, the one who molested her as a girl.
- On top of that, Joy used to let Thad watch from the closet while Joy and Dominick made love.
- She says not to worry about the HIV because Thad is "very careful about things" (30.386).
- End of tape.
- Dominick pretty much sits back in shock.
- Then, because when it rains it pours, Steve Felice's fiancée shows up.
- It's none other than Nedra Frank. She has Dominick's grandfather's life story, fully translated, and she plops it on the bed at Dominick's feet.
