Team Qualifications
D-I men's programs usually accept around 10 recruits every year (source), out of about 160,000 high school players (source). How do you like those odds, Shmoopers? Yeah, they make us kind of sad, too.
About 110,000 high school women compete for about 700 NCAA D-I spots (source). Now you know. We're not going to tell you how to live your life, but those aren't exactly a betting person's odds.
So, what do you have to do to land a spot? Get down on your hands and knees and start begging? Just kidding. Sort of.
For starters, you should be attending regional lacrosse camps and showcases; these events attract the best high school talent from across the land (source). That's where you impress the coaches and scouts. We hear they love mohawks.
Are you all-American? All-state? All-conference? All-team? All…position? You gotta be all-something. Accolades will help you get some extra attention.
As for the rest, we can't really help you. You're on your own, kid.
