Dr. Strangelove

Typically, the mentor is some good guy who helps our hero get the skills they need to save the day. Here, though, the mentor is a sinister ex-Nazi with rebellious mechanical arm. Still, he's a guy whose opinion everybody respects, as is clear when Strangelove lays out all the details of the Doomsday Machine. After the world ends, Strangelove also sets up a plan for the human race to continue on, living at the bottoms of mineshafts to avoid the nuclear winter. He impresses all the gentlemen in the room by suggesting that every man would be required to have 10 babe-licious wives.

While he's rambling on about this plan, which would involve a method of selection of the superior humans to be saved (an idea any Nazi would love), everyone in the War Room listens very intently. It's clear that they take his crazy opinions quite seriously.
