Character Analysis
Matt and Mike Baker are Juli's older brothers, and boy do these two like to stir up trouble. But the Baker brothers aren't just a bunch of goofballs—they're seriously hard workers too. They're in a band where they write tons of songs, and they record the songs themselves, too. In fact, Matt and Mike have quite a bit of music savvy, and some financial know-how too, so when Mr. Loski grills them about their demo, they get to share their expertise:
Everyone wants CDs. But the multitrack and the mixdown to two-track is analog. And we could afford it, Mr. Loski, because we got used gear and we've been saving up our pennies since we were twelve years old. […] You still play? We could, you know, lay down some of your tunes if you want. (11.107)
Matt and Mike Baker sure do know their stuff, and their ability to save up enough money for expensive music equipment has us pretty impressed. But the thing we're really loving here is their generosity—Mr. Loski has been pretty rude to them, but these bros are kind and polite just the same.
