The Old Fisherman (Kokuten Kôdô)

Character Analysis

Okay, there are several old fishermen on Odo Island, but you know who we're talking about here. This is the guy who gives Godzilla its name.

After hearing Masaji's description of the creature, the old fisherman exclaims that it must be Godzilla, a terrifying monster from Odo Island tradition. He tells Hagiwara that the creature would eat all the fish in the sea before coming ashore to nosh on people to sate its appetite. To appease the beast, old-school Odo Islanders would send young maidens adrift in the ocean to be eaten. Nowadays, this ritual has morphed into an exorcism dance, sans the sacrifice.

That's all well and good, but did he have to reminisce about setting young girls adrift like it was the "good ole days"? Creepy.
