- Flashback time! Adah tells us how she and Leah were put into a gifted class in school. It seems that the people of Bethlehem, Georgia, were unsettled by crippled Adah being considered "gifted."
- Back in the Congo, it's the rainy season, so they're all trapped inside with Methuselah, the parrot, who says things like "Piss off, Methuselah!" (1.8.20). Gee, wonder where he picked up that phrase.
- When the five-hour rain finally ends, the girls go outside and see that the garden their Father planted has washed away.
- After dinner, he heads outside and pushes the garden up into little mounds, just like Mama Tataba told him to do in the first place.
