Kerrigor

Character Analysis

It's not a fantasy story without a good old-fashioned, power-mad villain, is it? Good thing we have Kerrigor around, who is every inch the diabolical baddie. Just like Sauron and Voldemort, Kerrigor has gone so power-mad that he's abandoned whatever human form he once had and turned into a horrific monster. If you've got power, who cares about looking like an undead nightmare?

Before he embarked on a career as a professional evil-doer, Kerrigor was born Prince Rogir in Belisaere. His full name was Rogirek, which was switched around to Kerrigor as a nickname by his half-brother Touchstone. Aw…

Kerrigor became a Free Magic sorcerer, rejecting the rules and laws of Charter Magic in favor of the sheer power of Free Magic. Along the way, he decided that he didn't have quite enough power, so he formed a plan to break the Charter in order to transfer power for himself from Death into Life. In order to break the Charter, he sacrificed his mother and sister to break the Charter Stones in the capital city.

At some point during this fiendish quest for power, Kerrigor became more dead than alive, eventually becoming the most powerful of the Greater Dead. He came up with a plan to hide his physical body, knowing that as long as his corpse was undisturbed by necromancers, he could continue wreaking havoc in spirit form.

So here's a guy who loves power so much he'd happily sacrifice his mom and sister to destroy the charter his kingdom is built on. Sounds like a real winner.

In addition to his obsessive pursuit of power, Kerrigor's hobbies include summoning a Mordicant to stalk Sabriel, cultivating a zombie army, cackling madly, and hiding his real body where no one can find it. Good luck with that last bit, Kerrigor.
