Character Analysis
Kyra Collins is basically Cole's ghostly guinea pig for testing the theory that the ghosts that surround him are only looking for help.
After initially running from her, Cole decides to listen—and sure enough, she has a task for him. It seems that Kyra's "grieving" mother had slowly poisoned her to death, and now (with Kyra out of the way) is starting on her little sister. Kyra gives Cole a box with a videotape in it showing her mother dumping poison into the soup that she gives to poor sick Kyra every day.
Not so fun fact: this is really a thing. It's called Munchausen by Proxy syndrome.
Cole manages to get proof to Kyra's dad of those maternal misdeeds, which accomplishes a few key things.
- It saves the little sister's life.
- It brings Kyra's killer to justice.
- It shows Cole that helping the ghosts can actually work out.
Cole's test run as a ghost therapist is a success, and you could say he kinda sorta has Kyra to thank for turning around his relationship with the spirit world.
