- Fast forward: Deanna's cleaning out her locker at the end of the school year and remembering when her class read Lord of the Flies.
- Some of the students wondered how the boys in the book could be so savage; Deanna wondered if they realized they were savages.
- Tucker Bradford and Bruce Cowell, Deanna's biggest bullies, come up to taunt her about being a "slut," like they've been doing for three years.
- Tucker makes a joke about Deanna's boobs. He's got man boobs, so she makes a joke about his.
- Jason, Deanna's best friend/secret crush, comes along to rescue her.
- Jason asks Tucker why he's still hanging around harassing Deanna when he graduated yesterday.
- Tucker threatens to beat Jason up, but one of Tucker's crew of jocks reminds him they've got a kegger to go to.
- Deanna and Jason head for Denny's, which is where people hang out in Pacifica.
- After Denny's, they go to the CD store, and Deanna reflects on Jason's awesomeness.
- Too bad she introduced him to Lee, her other best friend, who transferred to Terra Nova (the Pacifica high school) from San Francisco. Now Jason and Lee are dating. Oops.
- Jason and Deanna ride home on the bus. Deanna's home comes before Jason's, so she gets off and contemplates the extreme ugliness of her house.
- Inside, her dad's eating dinner—he only pauses long enough to tell Deanna to do her homework. When she tells him school just ended, he tells her to stay out of trouble for the summer.
- Mom offers everybody ice cream, which is what she does when anything unpleasant happens.
- Dad makes a comment about Stacy leaving late for work (because Stacy, Deanna's brother Darren, and their unplanned baby April live in the basement).
- Dad's not a fan of Stacy's, to say the least.
- Deanna fantasizes about getting a job and saving money so she, Darren, and Stacy can move out. She hasn't told them about her plan yet, but she's sure they'll like it.
