Story of a Girl Chapter 6 Summary

  • Deanna reads over what she's written in her journal and decides the stories about the girl aren't any good.
  • She crosses through all the pages and goes downstairs to watch soap operas with Stacy. While digging through Stacy's stuff, she finds an unused box of Copper Sunset hair dye.
  • Stacy decides she needs a change and dyes her hair; then she dresses up for Darren, who's on his way home.
  • Darren comes in, sees her hair, and says he's always wanted to kiss a hot redhead. Stacy gets inexplicably mad.
  • When she drives Deanna to work that night, Stacy's still wearing the makeup she put on for Darren, and she's squeezed into some seriously tight skinny jeans.
  • Picasso's actually has a busy night. Everything's going okay until Deanna's worst bullies—Jake, Anthony, Jolene, and Mike—come in and start giving her a hard time.
  • The bullies are either seniors or Terra Nova graduates, and know Tommy, so they think it's hilarious that Deanna's now working with him. They tease her about how she can't stay away.
  • Deanna goes into the back and cries, but little does she know her night's about to get worse: Stacy doesn't come to pick her up. Michael hangs out with her for a while, but Deanna decides to walk home.
  • Who should pull up while she's walking? Tommy of course. He offers her a ride and she accepts, because it's cold and foggy.
  • Once again he tries to get her stoned, but she refuses.
  • He drives her home and asks if her dad's still crazy. Luckily, Dad's asleep and Mom's at work, so Tommy doesn't have to find out.
  • Deanna thinks back to the night she first slept with him and how it all went down. Basically, she smoked pot with him because she wanted to show him she was a big mature junior-high-schooler.
  • When she remembers how he talked about her after the fact, her lingering crush is momentarily crushed. She gets out of his car and goes into the house.
  • Darren's waiting up. Stacy never came home.
