Story of a Girl Chapter 8 Summary

  • At work Tommy's still being obnoxious, but Deanna offers to stay and close with him anyway, because Michael has to leave.
  • Tommy asks for Lee's number, which Deanna doesn't give him; then he asks why Deanna can't ever be nice to him.
  • Deanna remembers that she and Tommy used to belong to each other, at least as much as she's ever belonged to anyone.
  • Which is probably why she accepts Tommy's ride home.
  • Sure enough, he offers her a joint (she doesn't accept) and drives to the lot where they used to make out, a.k.a. the scene of the crime.
  • Strangely enough (or not so strangely at all), they make out again. But when Tommy says, "Come on, Dee Dee," like he used to when he wanted her to do something she didn't want to, she jumps out of the car (shirtless).
  • As she puts her top back on, she finally lets Tommy have it. She starts crying and tells him what a jerk he was three years ago; she asks why he told and ruined her reputation.
  • Then, because she needs a ride home, she lets him give her one.
  • As he drops her off, Tommy actually manages to apologize. He says he's sorry, and she says, "Me too," even though if there was ever a girl who had nothing to be sorry about, it's Deanna.
