- We see Travis buying a record for Betsy at a record store, before getting back in his cab. On the voiceover, Travis talks about Betsy and realizes he doesn't know her last name.
- Travis picks up two guys in a cab—they turn out to be Charles Palantine and an aide. Travis says he's a big Palantine supporter and compliments him.
- Palantine asks Travis what he wants to change about America, and Travis says that New York is filthy and disgusting—"like an open sewer." He wishes someone would clean it up and flush the whole mess down the toilet.
- Palantine says he understands, but it won't be easy—they'll need to make some serious reforms. Travis drops him off and wishes him well.
- Next, Travis picks up a young girl who's eager to leave—apparently, she's a prostitute, but her pimp comes and drags her out of the car. He throws Travis a crinkled twenty.
- After leaving, a bunch of kids throw bottles and stuff at Travis's cab in a bad part of town.
- Travis parks his taxi in the garage and leaves for his date with Betsy.
- He gives her the record, as a nearby street performer plays on a snare drum.
- Travis takes Betsy to a theater that looks a lot like a porno theater—because it is one. Betsy doesn't want to go, noting accurately that it's a porn theater. Travis insists it's a normal movie that a lot of couples go to.
- When they go inside, it quickly becomes clear that the movie is pretty pornographic. Betsy is obviously uncomfortable, and soon gets up and leaves.
- Travis follows her outside. He's confused, doesn't know what he did wrong. Travis tries to salvage the date, take her somewhere else, and grabs her arm when she tries to walk away. She angrily hails a cab and leaves.
- We see Travis apologizing to her from an indoor pay phone. He trying to get her to agree to give him another chance—but she won't.
- The camera pans away from this painful rejection, focusing on an empty hall. When Travis' finishes the phone call, he walks away down this hall.
