- We see flowers Travis wanted to give to Betsy rotting in his room, as he writes in his diary and talks on the voiceover about how he thinks he has stomach cancer.
- He goes to the campaign headquarters and yells at Betsy, telling her she's "just like the rest of them!" as Tom tries to get him to leave, which he finally does.
- Next, Travis takes a passenger (played by the director, Martin Scorsese) in his cab. The passenger gets Travis to sit outside an apartment building, while ranting about how his wife is having an affair with a black man in one of these apartments (the passenger uses a really terrible racial slur).
- The passenger tells Travis he's going to kill his wife with a .44 Magnum, which will completely blow her face off.
- He keeps saying Travis must think he's sick, but Travis doesn't say anything.
- Back at the diner—the Belmore Cafeteria—the other drivers are hanging out again. They're discussing little people (dwarves), and then Wizard says he picked up a gay male couple who started beating each other up.
- He says he told them to knock it off—but Wizard says he approves of the pro-gay-rights policies they have in California.
- Travis comes in and sits down.
- Wizard gets up and Travis goes to talk to him.
