The Art of Fielding Chapter 57 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Pella Affenlight returns to the apartment she lives in with her dad, Guert Affenlight (we just can't get over that name).
  • She tells her dad that she wants to move out. That way, he can have guests over—"like Owen" (57.35), his gay student lover.
  • He admits that he loves Owen. She actually quotes a saying in Latin to him—"Amor vincit Omnia" (57.51), or "love conquers all"—sarcastically (because there's no other way to quote in Latin). Then she grabs her bags and leaves.
