- At the Adams's house, Torey's mom wants them to dish the dirt. Now.
- But how can he? What would he say?
- Good thing his mom lets that one go for a bit. She moves on and tells them that adults have their own lives and know each other's business just like their kids do. Ali and Greg have no problems staying with the Adams.
- Going into it a bit, Torey's mom tells them that Bo could get in major trouble if there is any type of evidence.
- At least Ali tells her the truth about being with Bo on Thursday after school, but Bo lied and that's no good for him.
- Then Ali brings up her theory about Mrs. Creed killing her son and hiding the body, then pinning it on Bo. Um, no dice—Mrs. Adams is way too smart for that.
- She tells them there is no way that is what happened, and that while Mrs. Creed may be pointing the finger all over the place because she doesn't want to look at herself, she still didn't kill her kid.
- Luckily for them, Mrs. Adams is the type of mom who's good at listening. She tells them that something like this situation happened in Steepleton before, with someone named Bob Haines whose son Digger ran away from his controlling dad.
- Mrs. Adams likes to think that he went and did something nice with his life instead, somewhere far away, and indeed, this is what happened. She later found out that Digger had changed his name and was working as a lawyer.
- But Bob disappeared as well and was never seen again; the rumor was that he killed himself in the woods.
- Then Mrs. Adams asks them if there is anything they know that will get Bo in trouble.
- Oddly, though, she tells them not to tell her if one of them made the phone call. Not yet.
- And she thinks she can help Bo out. Ali is concerned that he might get arrested for murder, but Mrs. Adams lets them know that is highly unlikely since they have no evidence and no confession of murder.
- Out of this whole chaotic and frightening situation, Torey sees clearly that when something bad happens, it causes a chain reaction. This things needs to be understood.
- Right before they head off to bed, Mrs. Adams gives Ali a notebook with her name on it, saying that Bo gave this to her to pass along.
- Ali has a weird look on her face and Torey realizes that Bo is an amazing liar. He got the diary.
