- Tuesday, Torey wakes up in a bad mood and intends to nag Alex for missing band practice without calling again, but in class Alex convinces him that he was working on a history paper and that Renee wasn't with him.
- Before Torey can object much, Alex tells him about another time he hit Chris but had forgotten about. They were twelve at the time, and Chris was by the old Indian burial ground.
- When Alex rode by on his bike, Chris taunted him with a treasure map, saying that he just buried treasure and shouldn't show anyone. Alex got annoyed and tried to tear up the map but it was laminated so he couldn't; he thought the whole thing was so lame that he hit him.
- Then Torey learns that Mrs. Creed was raving in the Wawa last night that Bo Richardson must have murdered Chris and that the body must be in the Pine Barrens, where the boons live.
- Wow, what a bit of gossip, right? But does she have proof? Hmm…
- Stupidly, Alex lets slip that Renee actually was with him last night, and Torey totally notices and is mad that his best friend just lied to him. But then Torey gets caught up thinking about how it might be possible for Bo to have killed Chris. He trusts Mrs. Creed because she's a parent, an adult.
- Torey begins to feel dumb for thinking that maybe the boons weren't that bad and maybe he should like them. An adult was accusing a boon, after all, and adults are mature and grown up.
- Alex says that it all makes perfect sense to him, and Torey realizes that Bo did send Chris to the hospital, but then again so did Torey the day he punched him, and no one was accusing Torey of murder.
- At this moment, Torey thinks that the matter of blaming Bo and not him is a big point to consider, but he doesn't bring it up since he doesn't think Alex would be able to accept it.
- Alex only wants to see his own "version of reality."
- Uncaring about the consequences, Torey cancels band practice and says he's going to Ali's, which shocks Alex and makes him stare.
