Have you ever heard the phrase body of Christ? It comes up in Christianity from time to time (okay, if you're Catholic, it comes up all the time, since it's a key component of Holy Communion), and refers in various ways—literal and figurative alike—to Jesus, his body, and the church. Throw an –er Creed at the end of the phrase, though, and we've got ourselves the title of our book.
So, in case is isn't clear, The Body of Christopher Creed is a shout-out to Jesus, and a clue to keep our eyes peeled for biblical references in order to fully appreciate the book. Pretty nice of Plum-Ucci, right? It's like she's handing us a compass to help us make our way through the book with this title.
Religious references aside, though, there's also something ominous about the title. It refers to a body, after all, which sends our brain wheels spinning off into murder-mystery territory. If you replace Christopher Creed with a different name—say, Susie Q—we think you'll see what we mean. The Body of Susie Q conjures all kinds of terrible images, doesn't it? So in this way, the title also sets us up for the mystery the book contains, preparing us to sleuth our way through.
If we've piqued your interest about Christopher Creed himself, be sure to check out the "Characters" and the "Symbolism" section, since he's such a big deal that we've said loads about him in both.
