The Price of Salt, or Carol Chapter 8 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • At Richard's family's house, Therese makes some sort of Russian Christmas wish. She wishes for Carol, and she won't tell Richard what she wished for.
  • Therese thinks that happiness is like flying a kite, and just as she thinks that, Richard shows up with a kite.
  • They go to fly it, and when Therese finally gets the thing aloft, Richard cuts the kite string and watches it fly away.
  • Therese is upset, but Richard tells her it's only a kite—he can totally make another.
