- Fast-forward to summer fourteen. Gat asks Cadence if he can take the boat out, and she tells him he doesn't have to ask permission.
- He says he feels like he does, and that he has to get off the island for a minute, because sometimes his outsider-ness drives him crazy.
- Cadence goes with him. They jump out of the boat and go for a swim. They joke about sharks.
- The water is cold, so they get back on the boat and wrap up in a blanket together. Gat tells Cadence he thinks she's pretty.
- Shortly thereafter, he starts lending her books, and they start spending more time together.
- One day, she looks at him lying in a hammock and realizes she's actually, for-real in love with him.
- She takes the pen out of his hand and writes her name on his left hand and his name on his right.
