Handler didn't have to do any special research for Why We Broke Up. He developed Min's voice by listening to high school girls on the bus and around town.

The idea for Why We Broke Up was borne from Maira Kalman's desire to paint ordinary objects. "I just began to think about what makes an ordinary object beautiful in life," Handler says. "One of the things that can do it is just a memory."
