Al Capone Does My Shirts Part 1, Chapter 18 Summary

Not on My Team

  • Scout comes up to Moose at school the next morning to talk about baseball, but Moose can't bring himself to tell him the bad news.
  • The last bell rings and Moose desperately tries to think of an excuse for why he can't go to baseball. Piper catches up to him, saying she's heard about his baseball skills. She also teases him about how he's not getting any of the profits from the laundry service.
  • At the last minute, Moose fesses up to Scout. Scout asks if he can get somebody else to watch Natalie—Piper, for instance—but Piper just snorts. Luckily she keeps her mouth shut about Natalie, though.
  • Scout is disappointed and irritated with Moose.
  • Moose gets home, and out of spite, lets Natalie play with her buttons and eat lemon cake.
