The Crystal Cave Book Two, Chapter 3 Summary

  • Merlin takes advantage of the good wool cloak and food that the young soldier has left with his horse in the shed. With food in his belly he falls asleep.
  • But then Merlin wakes up. It feels warmer to him than before, and he feels as snug as he did when he was in the crystal cave.
  • Then, Merlin sees the soldier walking across the field to get his horse. Good feelings gone. He knows he's in trouble because he has no time to return the cloak.
  • But things get unusual really quickly. Merlin sees a white bull grazing in the field where the young soldier is. Only it's not the young soldier from before—it's a foreign-looking dude.
  • The bull charges at the man, who easily avoids it. And then, the dude jumps on the bull's back. We did not see that coming.
  • The man takes a knife and slices the beast's neck. Eww.
  • Merlin freaks out and starts to run toward the man, but he trips on the soldier's cloak, which is too long for a kid like him.
  • Merlin feels something hit him on the head—and then everything fades to black.
