- Merlin and Cadal return to the Giants' Dance on December 20th to honor Merlin's promise to his dead father. It's really cold out there.
- Merlin's totally certain that Uther will appear, even though he didn't properly R.S.V.P. to Merlin's invite. The whole point is for Uther to understand fully the work Merlin's done at Stonehenge.
- But Uther's not feeling it at zero dark thirty in subzero temps.
- Uther and Merlin make small talk. Uther wants to know if it's true that Merlin was really at Ambrosius' death bed, even though he was moving the King stone at the same moment.
- Uther's pretty miffed that Merlin knew that Ambrosius was dying but never told him. Merlin says that there was nada he could do about it, so why bother?
- Uther makes it clear that he doesn't want anything to do with the magical part of Merlin. He's not going to rule on prophecies as his brother did. Merlin is down with this, but he knows their paths will cross soon.
- Merlin tells Uther that he only holds one thing against him: Keridwen. He remembers that Keridwen slept with Uther just after he had refused her by Galapas' cave.
- Uther can't believe that Merlin would go gooey over a girl. He has newfound respect for his nephew.
- As the sun rises, Merlin and Uther stand at the foot of the King stone, facing east. Merlin has calculated exactly how to lay the stones so that a beam of light falls directly across the grave.
- Uther can see how impressive the circle of stones is—and he knows that Merlin has done this out of devotion to his dad.
- Uther wants to reward Merlin for work well done, but Merlin wants nothing more from him. He just wants to get back to his cave.
