- Merlin and Cadal continue slowly through the forest on their way back home. Merlin still feels that something to do with his power is going to happen. Cadal has no clue about this.
- Soon, the horses start to freak out: there are more horses somewhere in the dark forest. But Merlin still feels that he's supposed to be there and that it's safe.
- It turns out that the horses belong to Belasius and his servant boy, Ulfin. And Ulfin is not happy to be found like this in the forest.
- Ulfin won't tell Merlin and Cadal where his master Belasius is at the moment. Cadal wants to borrow a horse from Ulfin so that they can get back home more quickly.
- But Merlin is all about finding Belasius. It's clear that Ulfin is not meant to give them that info. Merlin jokes that Belasius must be out there murdering someone.
- …And then, Merlin hears a scream. Right on cue. Merlin rides down a bank and then a partially hidden path, leaving Cadal and Ulfin behind. They think he panicked and rode for home.
- But really, Merlin wants to investigate the source of the scream. Just like you would do in a dark forest at night, right?
- After a distance, Merlin hears chanting in the forest. Merlin feels super excited by this find—because now he understands that Belasius is out there doing secret stuff.
- Merlin gets down off his horse and walks toward the sound.
