Who is the narrator, can she or he read minds, and, more importantly, can we trust her or him?
First Person (Central Narrator)
Marcus Yallow tells readers his story in retrospect throughout the entire novel. Since everything's happened already, he has the time to be a leisurely, un-panicked narrator. He gets to fill us in on context and details. Oh, and he gets to explain things. Lots of things. (Marcus loves explaining.)
But mostly this first person narration allows us to really get inside Marcus's head. We get to know him, and we get to feel all of his feels along with him.
And Marcus is a pretty trustworthy narrator, although there are times when he gets a wee bit dramatic. But hey—not only does it make for a quickly-paced story with no real dull moments, we also have to admit that, after all that Marcus has been through, he gets to be a tad bombastic. He's earned it.
