Marked Chapter 10 Summary

  • After Aphrodite and her clique walk away, everyone at Zoey's table badmouths them and Stevie Rae warns Zoey that the Dark Daughters can be dangerous.
  • Zoey says she doesn't want to go to their ritual, but since Nefret apparently okayed it, Zoey pretty much has to go.
  • Zoey changes the subject and asks them to explain the symbols that all the students wear: Erin and Shaunee wear golden wings since they're a year ahead (symbolizing the wings of Eros, Nyx's child), while the next class wears Nyx's golden chariot pulling a trail of stars, and the next class up wears a symbol of the three Fates, children of Nyx.
  • Stevie Rae and Zoey walk back to their room, and Stevie Rae says that everyone in their group has a good heart. Damien's former roommate was a homophobic jerk but Nefret didn't put up with it.
  • The girls help themselves to some snacks, and Stevie Rae explains that the vampyres like them to eat healthily—after all, the fledglings need to give their bodies as much nourishment as possible to help them get through the Change.
  • Because if their bodies reject the Change, they die. Dun dun dun…
