- At breakfast, Aphrodite comes up to Zoey, acting all apologetic about how Zoey rushed out and must not have liked the ritual.
- Zoey pretends to be clueless and cheerful, saying she had a blast, and is happy to now be a member of the Dark Daughters. And won't Nefret be happy to hear it, too?
- Stevie Rae is worried, but Zoey tells her she has a plan: She needs to infiltrate the Dark Daughters and stop Aphrodite from getting away with all her terrible behavior.
- Zoey goes to talk to Nefret, who is delighted to meet Nala. They end up talking about family and Zoey complains about how her home life has been the pits ever since her mom remarried.
- Nefret tells Zoey that her father abused her at home, until she received her Mark and was able to leave—so Nefret understands where Zoey's coming from.
- Then Zoey tells Nefret about how she drank blood without knowing it, and liked it. Nefret confirms that it was unethical of Aphrodite to give her blood without her knowledge, but Zoey asks her not to talk to Aphrodite about it.
- Zoey also tells Nefret about Heath and Kayla finding her. Nefret sounds concerned about the possibility of Zoey Imprinting on Heath—apparently it's forbidden for fledglings to feed on humans, and even adult vampyres are discouraged because of the potential consequences.
- Zoey notices Nefret's eyes darken as she talks about the possibility of vampyres feeding on humans. But maybe it was just something she imagined?
- Nefret asks Zoey to write down her friends' full names and addresses so she can monitor them for signs of Imprinting. Also, Zoey shouldn't be in touch with Heath, just in case.
- Then Nefret lets Zoey use her phone to call her grandma.
