• Juan Preciado goes to Comala in search of his father.
• He finds that the town is full of ghosts, and that Pedro Páramo, his father, died long ago.
• He ends up being taken care of by a couple of the last people in town, but dies of fright anyway.
• He is buried along with another woman, Dorotea, and from inside the coffin can hear all the other spirits talking. In this way he learns the story of his mother and father.
