Character Analysis
Fulgor is Pedro's right-hand man: He's the Tom Hagen to Pedro's Don Corleone. He was Pedro's dad's right-hand man before that, and thought Pedro was a lousy brat until he became his boss. When the old man died he just started obeying Pedro, and started thinking that Pedro's son, Miguel, was a lousy brat.
Don Fulgor's job is to do Pedro's dirty work. He arranges tricky marriages, has people killed or kills them himself, and otherwise makes sure that Pedro dominates everything in Comala. He also keeps Miguel out of jail until finally he kills himself jumping a horse.
This character represents all the people who serve the most powerful person in the room at the time. He finally dies in the Revolution. Pedro doesn't seem too worried about losing his faithful servant, though. He just says that Fulgor had been "more of the next world than this. He'd given all he had to give. He could be useful, though no more than any other man" (60.20). Even after all the service Fulgor gave to Pedro, his life was worthless for his boss.
