- When they arrive at the village square, there is already dancing and music, and everyone cheers when they see the girls have returned; Miri's father and sister rush to hug her. There's no place like home.
- Miri finally gets a chance to dance with Peder but is super awkward about it and can't even make eye contact with him. Oh well.
- While stories are being told, Miri finally approaches Peder… but he acts kind of cold toward her. She keeps talking though, until he warms up and starts talking to her again like he used to.
- He even tells her that he wants to stay on Mount Eskel, but doesn't want to work in the quarries—instead he wants to carve linder stone and make beautiful things out of it.
- Miri finally admits what she's been working on, and tells Peder that she's been communicating with the other girls through quarry-speech. He tells her to try it on him now.
- When she does it, she's able to share the memory of the day that Peder carved her a little goat out of linder.
- Afterward, Peder tells her that she's his best friend and kisses her on the cheek. He disappears, but Miri just stays where she is, frozen by the kiss—she got exactly what she wished for.
- Britta starts to tease Miri about it, but Miri changes the subject and says that they have to go attend council to talk about what she's learned in Commerce.
- When she tells them about how they should ask for more from the traders, everyone listens to her and agrees that it's worth a try.
