- After Dan falls, Miri is reunited with her father and they hug fiercely.
- They go to release Knut and Tutor Olana from the closet and, since it's late, everyone stokes the fires and settles down to sleep at the academy with their families.
- In the morning they eat breakfast before heading down to the village. They will have to stay in the village until the prince returns again, since the academy isn't safe and there aren't enough supplies left (the bandits ate everything).
- Tutor Olana stays at Esa's house and Britta stays with Miri's family for the winter.
- Miri spends her time teaching Marda how to read, and soon other girls from the village start attending her classes as well. It turns out that Miri is a pretty good teacher, and she realizes that she wants the village to have its own school so that everyone can learn.
- Tutor Olana starts teaching classes again—not just to the girls though, but to anyone who wants to tag along.
- The girls settle down and talk about whether or not they want to be the princess. Miri knows that she doesn't want to be the princess, but she doesn't answer either way.
- At the spring holiday, Tutor Olana allows the girls to practice dancing with the village boys. Peder asks Miri for the first dance and she finds herself dancing with him and holding his hand. Ooh la la…
- When Peder asks Miri what she's thinking about though, she says she was thinking about the prince coming back—so Peder assumes that she wants to marry the prince and walks away after their dance. When will these crazy kids learn?
