The Scorch Trials Chapter 9 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Thomas wakes up to see Newt staring at him. Newt reminisces about the good old days when the "original Gladers" were setting up the Glade.
  • It must have been quite the scene for the original Gladers, but they were pretty darn good about being confused and such. They got the farm up and running within days.
  • Hey, maybe those kids from Lord of the Flies could have learned something from these kids.
  • Anyway, Thomas is all sad-face because he thinks they've been left there to die, but Newt reassures him that they're all being put through another kind of test, like the Maze.
  • Well, we guess that's reassurance in some twisted way.
  • Hunger then starts to settle in for the boys. They go about three days without food, and all of them are on the verge of starvation.
  • So, what does Thomas do? He falls asleep. Perfect.
  • Minho wakes Thomas up (thank you) and gives him an apple. Apparently, a random assortment of fruits, vegetables, and packages appeared in the common area that night.
  • Oh, and one more thing: a skinny dude wearing a white suit has also appeared.
  • Yep.
  • And this dude is sitting in a chair reading a book.
  • Just your typical night, folks. Nothing to worry about here.
