- Mclean is now working in Opal's new restaurant—and has even graduated from Jackson High with the rest of her friends.
- She was supposed to move back to Tyler according to plan, but after Mclean had said bye to all her friends and to Dave (who was now her boyfriend and willing to do the long distance thing), her mom said that she couldn't do this to Mclean—she wouldn't uproot her again.
- So now Mclean lives in Opal's spare room and visits her mom regularly. She keeps in close touch with both of her parents via phone calls and emails, and was allowed to finish out the rest of the year at Jackson and feel like she truly belonged in the senior class.
- She's planning on attending the university in town in the fall, and Dave will be going to MIT—even though she's nervous about the distance, she knows that they can do it.
- Deb walks into the restaurant—apparently she got a job there as well. She's an awesome waitress and has totally improved operations because of her insane attention to organization.
- She grabs her phone to check it, and sees that she has a message from her mom about going to the beach that weekend, an orientation email from the university, and a text message from Dave with a picture of his road trip to Texas. Looks like he got to live out his last months of high school like a normal teenager after all.
