- One day, Joe comes up to the hotel room where Evie is and asks her where her mother is—he tells her that the deal is going through and they're going to pick her mom up early from the golf course.
- When they get there, though, they can't find her mom at all. And her car isn't even in the parking lot. Huh…
- They return to the hotel, where they find Evie's mom. Joe asks her how her golf game was, but she spots Mrs. Grayson coming across the lobby and says that she didn't go golfing today—she was out shopping with Mrs. Grayson. Evie sees Mrs. Grayson hesitate for a moment before she confirms this, though.
- Late that night, Evie wakes up and hears her parents arguing. Joe is asking Bev why she sold ties during the war, and if it was because she was flirting with the men there. Joe flings the pineapple vase across the room and it smashes into pieces.
- At 4:00AM, Evie's door opens and Joe stumbles in. She asks him if he's okay, and he says that he loves her mother and that he didn't mean to break the vase.
- He also says that when he was in the war, all he thought about was getting back to Bev. Then he desperately asks her where her mom goes.
