- Wednesday, May 24, 1989 (Henry is 41, Clare is 18)
- Henry crash-lands on the meadow at Clare's feet. It's her 18th birthday. She has prepared a romantic gourmet picnic for the two of them. She reminds him that, since this is the last time they'll be together for two long years, they planned something extra special. Henry doesn't remember because the conversation took place in his future, so Clare reveals to him that they decided to make love. Henry agrees. Clare is nervous so Henry gently guides her through her first time.
- Afterwards Clare begs him to give her a hint as to where to find him in the present. He only gives her one hint: Chicago. He reminds her that when they see each in the present in two years, he won't know her, so he asks her to not blow his mind with everything about their past all at once. They both say "I love you" before Henry disappears.
