The Time Traveler's Wife Book 2, Chapter 27 Summary

How It All Goes Down

What Goes Around Comes Around

  • Monday, December 18, 2006/Sunday, January 2, 1994 (Henry is 43): Henry wakes up from the pain in his legs. He's lying on someone's floor and realizes he's in Ingrid's apartment. Ingrid doesn't seem surprised, but she's also not pleased to see him. Henry asks her for opiates to help his pain and she gives him some from her stash of drugs. Henry realizes that today is the day Ingrid will commit suicide. He begs her to take care of herself. Ingrid still hasn't forgiven him for leaving her. She asks him about his family. Henry tells her he's still married and has a daughter. When Ingrid asks him about her future, Henry remains evasive. She starts guessing until she asks him if she dies. She suddenly pulls a gun on Henry, but then places the gun on her temple. She asks Henry if he loved her and he says "Yes." She calls him a liar and shoots herself in front of him.
  • Monday, December 18, 2006 (Clare is 35, Henry is 43): Clare wakes up in the middle of the night and panics. She finds Henry crying in the living room. He tells her that Ingrid died. He believes it's his fault, but Clare tells him that there was nothing he could have done. Alba wakes up and Henry plays with her. After she has left the kitchen, Henry tells Clare that some all-important documents, including his will, are organized in his desk. Clare knows that Henry knows the exact date of his death, but he won't tell her when that is.
