- Henry and Clare visit Charisse and Gomez, who have just had their third child. Clare loves holding Charisse's baby, filled with longing.
- When Charisse asks Henry if he wants to hold the baby too, he panics and steps outside. He realizes that his father never held him when he was a baby. When Henry tells Gomez that they've had three miscarriages so far, Gomez comments that to lose three babies "looks like carelessness" (2.7.28).
