How we cite our quotes: (Chapter.Paragraph)
Quote #4
Robbie caught my eye and he smiled… I smiled back… Then from behind me came Lindsay and crossed over to Robbie. He had been smiling at her!!! My face was so red you could fry an egg on it. Robbie kissed Lindsay on the cheek. She had her hair up and was quite literally all ears. (5.562)
After seeing Lindsay receive a kiss for Robbie, Georgia turns to jealousy, her go-to response, and insults her immediately by calling her "all ears." Georgia often handles feeling inferior by knocking the person she feels inferior to down a notch or two.
Quote #5
Robbie was at the gate […] probably waiting for his fiancée. I walked by, sort of pretending I hadn't noticed he was there. But he spoke to me. "Nice company you keep." (5.608)
This is a twofer jealousy special, Shmoopers: Robbie handles his jealously about Georgia's date, Mark, by putting him (and Georgia's romantic taste) down—but Georgia only brought Mark with her because she's jealous of Lindsay. Neither Georgia nor Robbie has the chutzpah to express their romantic feelings for each other, so instead passive-aggressive jabs are the way they communicate for much of the book.
Quote #6
When we got to Jas's house I just walked in through the gate, through the door and straight up the stairs into her bedroom. It was like I had a fur ball in my throat. I thought I was going to choke and explode and poo myself all at the same time. (7.700)
Jas has a coffee date with Robbie, and guess who's jealous? Georgia. But this time around, Georgia's not just laying down some serious attitude—she's practically choking on her jealous feelings.
