- Because she can't leave on her own, Gemma follows Alex down the hallway. He warns her that Laylen isn't exactly human—in fact, he's actually a vampire.
- He was a Keeper before he was changed, though, so he's more in control of his blood lust than other vampires. She doesn't have to worry about him attacking her.
- They enter a room to find Aislin standing there with her phone. She tells them that she couldn't get a hold of Stephan, Marco, or Sophia; it's starting to worry her.
- Gemma turns around to see a tall blond guy who remarks that the last time he saw her she was about four years old. This must be Laylen.
- Aislin and Laylen tell Alex that kissing Gemma in the bus might have brought about the Death Walkers because they could sense the energy flowing from her, but he gets mad and says that it's not his fault.
- Gemma starts to get overwhelmed again and says that she's going outside to get some air. Laylen offers to go with her.
- Outside, the sky is dark and filled with stars. Gemma sits while Laylen asks her how life is with Marco and Sophia, noting that they're not the most pleasant people to be around.
- He says that he hasn't seen them—or most of the other Keepers—since he became a vampire. He's also pretty sympathetic about Gemma's situation and all this information that she's being inundated with.
- She asks him about being a vampire and Laylen responds that he's not like other vampires. He doesn't drink blood or kill, unlike others, though he's still immortal, stronger than humans, and has fangs.
- He also has the ability to sense when people are afraid and remarks on how Gemma isn't afraid, which is a bit odd.
- Alex opens the door and asks them if they're having fun, though it sounds like he's cranky about it. Laylen winks and helps Gemma up and they walk back into the house.
