- Zed announces that the recruits are "everything we've come to expect from years of government training," and we're pretty sure he doesn't mean that as a compliment.
- Zed takes the recruits for an "eye exam" while Kay pulls Edwards aside for a chat and discloses the history of the Men in Black. After the Men in Black made contact with aliens in 1961, the Earth became an apolitical zone for intergalactic refugees—or, as Kay so nicely sums it up, Casablanca minus the Nazis.
- Foreshadowing alert: Pay attention to the Astro-Towers from the 1964 New York World's Fair. It'll be important later in the film.
- Edwards thinks Kay might be crazy, but when Kay grabs a cup of coffee in the break room, Edwards sees a bunch of alien slackers chilling in the breakroom and realizes he's telling the truth after all.
