How It All Goes Down
- Dolores decides to devote herself to Kippy's service while her collarbone heels, which involves fetching her snacks and dutifully leaving while she sleeps with Eric from Culinary Arts.
- Kippy isn't answering Dante's letters anymore, so Dolores steals them and reads them.
- He's still going to prayer services almost every night and determined to never treat a woman the way his father did.
- Dolores has been avoiding Dottie, but she eventually catches up to her.
- Dottie says that Kippy has been saying mean things about Dolores behind her back, but Dolores isn't sure whether she should believe her or not.
- Tired of school already, Dolores stops attending some of her classes. She doesn't go to any of the house meetings either, until Marcia, a senior, makes her go to one that night.
- It's for planning the Halloween party. Everyone is excited about it except Dolores, who isn't excited about anything, and Naomi, who tries to politicize the event and take a stand on Cambodia.
- Later that night, some of the girls fall for the Paul McCartney is dead scam and Dolores, having experienced real death (unless her mother is secretly a Beatle now), isn't happy about it.
- The phone rings, and it's Dottie. She asks Dolores over to see her fish.
- Dolores tries to get her off the phone, saying she's busy, but Dottie says, "I love you so much" (2.14.141).
- She tries to say that she means it just as a friend, but Dolores hangs up on her.
- Kippy tries to be sensitive about the death thing: "It must be hard" (2.14.154), she says… before asking her to do laundry. Ugh.
- Dolores, being the world's largest doormat, does. She checks the mail on the way and finds another letter from Dante.
- This letter is different: It includes pictures—naked pictures—and Dolores keeps them.
- She bumps into Naomi in the laundry room. They smoke a joint, talk about Woodstock, and roll down a hill (not a drug metaphor, they literally roll down a hill).
