How we cite our quotes: (Chapter.Paragraph)
Quote #1
“If you finished making dinner,” she said, “I'll love you forever.” (5.20)
This would be cute if it were Grace talking to Sam, but it's Grace's mom talking to her. Shouldn't she already love her forever? Isn't that part of the mother-daughter contract? Their relationship is more like one between friends than between mother and daughter.
Quote #2
It had taken six years for him to let me touch him. Hold him. And now he'd guarded me, just like he'd always guarded me. (6.1)
Even though Grace is human and Sam is (mostly) a wolf, they still love each other. It's the most powerful inter-species love story since King Kong.
Quote #3
Did [Olivia] want me to pretend to like the other photos better than the one of my wolf? (8.73)
Grace's love for the wolf borders on obsession, but love often does. See: Romeo and Juliet and The Great Gatsby… or pretty much any other story about love.
