How It All Goes Down

  • Marie says that Villiers is an old, very right-wing soldier who was opposed to the French giving Algeria independence. He's very respected and would never be involved with Carlos, she says.
  • Bourne says that Villiers could have hired Carlos to kill Howard Leland, who was opposed to French arms shipments.
  • Marie says Villiers's son, who was a right-wing politician, was murdered a few years back, possibly by Communists
  • Bourne figures he'll go to Villiers and blackmail him for information by threatening to expose his ties to Carlos.
  • Bourne stakes out Villiers and follows his car out to a meeting house.
  • Bourne sneaks about and up a drainpipe. He manages to see inside,where Villiers is addressing a bunch of old French soldiers.
  • Villiers is telling them about glory for France. Bourne is sickened for reasons he doesn't entirely understand.
