- To increase their ability to move quickly, Katsa ties Po onto his horse. He hit his head pretty hard, so his balance is shot, but his Grace still seems to be intact even if his reason isn't. He keeps answering Katsa's thoughts—something he really shouldn't be doing in front of Bitterblue, seeing as how his real Grace is a big ol' secret and everything.
- Katsa tries to cover for him as they make slow progress, and Po eventually points her toward a cave where they can seek shelter. He can sense the landscape now, too.
- After a night's rest and some food, they travel a bit further, but because of Po, they have to move pretty slow. That leads Po to suggest that Katsa should leave him behind and escape with Bitterblue.
- Katsa's reaction? Absolutely not. And then, reluctantly, yes.
- They tell Bitterblue, who gets it and, unlike Katsa, is able to see it as a temporary parting, not a forever goodbye.
- They go to bed resolved to find Po a good hiding place the next day so that Katsa and Bitterblue can make faster progress. Then, when Po's strong enough, he'll join them wherever they are and they'll all plot how to kill Leck once and for all. It's good to have goals.
