- Katsa and Po swim into Po's cave and dissect the events of the past year. It's been a busy one.
- Also among the topics of discussion is their decision to be together but not be married—a choice that has their friends and family somewhat perplexed.
- Po says there are some who understand, like Raffin and Bann for instance, and Katsa agrees. Yeah, they seem to get it.
- So what now?
- Po says he's headed for Lienid, even though he kind of dreads going. It will be hard. Katsa offers to accompany him, but he says, no, you do your thing and then we'll meet up again.
- Katsa plans to go to Bitterblue City to give fighting lessons to girls. That's something she plans to do all over the seven kingdoms, and she assures Po her next lessons will be to girls in Lienid, so they'll be together again by autumn's end.
- Katsa also plans to face Randa again. It's important to her that she do so now, with her newfound confidence and stability—she was so scared last time, and she needs Randa to know that she intends to come and go from his court as she pleases. She also wants to convince Helda to go to Monsea and help Bitterblue.
- It's all very lovely, and as they lie in the pitch-black darkness of the cave, Po tells Katsa, "You know, I wish you could see this cave. […] It's […] beautiful really" (E.38).
