- Katsa finds that she loves the sea, and also that she rather enjoys climbing to the top of the mast and swinging around like a monkey.
- During the first days of their voyage, while Bitterblue is busy being seasick below, Katsa tells the captain, Captain Faun, the truth about Leck and his terrifying Grace and makes a strange request. After getting them to Lienid, Katsa asks the captain to remain at sea until the trouble with Leck is resolved. His Grace is so powerful that Katsa wants the reassurance that there will be at least a few people—Captain Faun and her crew—who will remain immune to it by not coming in contact with Leck or anyone who can help to spread his lies.
- The captain is surprise. You want us to stay at sea indefinitely? Until you send us some kind of signal that we can land?
- Um, yes. That's about it.
- Okay.
- Katsa is after all a Lady Princess of Lienid now. Who's going to say no to her?
- With the captain and her crew as back-up, Katsa feels better about her situation.
- As they journey to Lienid, the crew becomes quite fond of their two new charges, and the men especially enjoy watching Katsa give Bitterblue lessons in knife-fighting and self-defense. A few of them even help with the training by taking a few hits to the groin. Now that's dedication.
