Character Analysis
As is often the case with ten-year-old girls, Hà often finds her three older brothers—Khoi, Vu, and Quang—rather pesky. It's standard siblings stuff, though, and at the end of the day they all love each other. That said, though her brothers are along for the journey, this is primarily Hà's story, so they aren't exactly major players (except when they're bugging her—she's got plenty to say about that from time to time). Here's a little bit about each of the big bros in this book.
Brother Khoi
The third son, Khoi is closest with Hà, and she gives him a lot of support. He loves animals and is devastated over the death of the chick he hatched (more on that over in Hà's analysis in this section, so be sure to check it out). Eventually he gives Hà rides on his bike to help protect her, and he wants to become a veterinarian when he grows up.
Brother Vu
This is the second-oldest bro, and he teaches Hà how to defend herself using martial arts. Vu works hard and perfects his martial arts skills; he wants to be like Bruce Lee, and even saves the day by showing up at the right moment and rescuing Hà after she totally wins the fight against Pink Boy. Vu is considered so cool by all the kids that Hà becomes cool just by being his sister and she isn't bullied any more, so yay for Vu.
Brother Quang
Quang is Hà's oldest bro, and he's wicked smart, feels that most things are beneath him, and has a lot of political ideas, all of which bores Hà. He is the only one in the family who can speak English, so he becomes their translator for a long time.
