Character Role Analysis

Pedro Páramo

You might be tempted to call Pedro Páramo the protagonist, not the antagonist, and there's really pretty good arguments for doing so. But we'll put him in the antagonist category because he's the big figure that our protagonist is up against: He's the deadbeat dad who abandoned him and his mother. Juan's mother makes him promise that he'll make Pedro pay, and, even though he's a little too late for that, it makes him our protagonist's enemy.
