We'll call Juan the protagonist because he's the main narrator and also the one the reader most identifies with. Weren't you just as scared as he was when Damiana Cisneros disappeared in the middle of their conversation? Juan takes us with him to Comala, and his fate (spoiler alert: It's death) is really what the story is about.
