- Ana, Father Rentería's niece (the one who was raped by the dead Miguel Páramo) appears for the first time in this section.
- She and her uncle have a conversation over hot chocolate over whether she's sure that Miguel was her attacker, and why she didn't scream or try to make him leave when he came into her room.
- She says she was afraid he would kill her, so she didn't struggle. In fact, she thought that she had died, until she woke up in the morning.
- She says she never heard his voice or saw him, but just knew that it was Miguel.
- Ana tells her uncle that she's praying that Miguel goes to hell, but he tells her it's not likely that her prayer will beat out all the prayers of the rich people who are rooting for him to get into heaven.
- He does hide the fact that he took money in exchange for pardoning Miguel, though.
